Food safety recall round-up

They were packaged at the Sargento Plymouth, Wisconsin facility. Sargento is recalling more products because they were packaged on the same line. No illnesses have been reported.

"We are vigilantly monitoring this issue to ensure the situation is resolved in a timely manner, and are working in full cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration to rigorously investigate this issue," said the firm.

Country Fresh is recalling 2,552 cases of various cooking and snacking products that contained Sargento branded cheeses.

The product was shipped to retailers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia under the Country Fresh and store brand labels.

It has “Best if used by” dates between January 19, 2017 through February 17, 2017.

Meijer recalled its Meijer Brand Colby Cheese and Colby Jack Cheese sold through its deli counters from November 10, 2016 to February 9 due to the same problem.

Meijer received notice of possible Listeria contamination from MDS Foods, a Meijer supplier that sources cheese from Deutsch Kase Haus, a manufacturer based in Middlebury, Indiana.

MDS Foods recalled multiple products with some found to be contaminated with Listeria and others which may be affected.

Deutsch Kase Haus supplied MDS Foods with Colby and Colby Jack minihorn cheeses found to be contaminated with the pathogenic organism.

MDS Foods also recalled potentially affected products packaged on the same production lines in the Tullahoma, Tennessee facility.

Guggisberg Cheese is recalling various types of Colby type cheeses and sizes due to a potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

Affected products were manufactured by Guggisberg Cheese and Deutsch Kase Haus under the Guggisberg label between September 1, 2016 and January 27.

Products were sold primarily in retail stores at deli counters in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois and West Virginia.

US: Deutsch Kase Haus has notified Sargento Foods that a specialty Longhorn Colby cheese must be recalled due to potential Listeria monocytogenes.

Affected retail products are Sargento Ultra Thin Sliced Longhorn Colby, 6.84 oz., UPC 4610000228, with “Sell By” dates of “12APR17B” and “10MAY17B” and Sargento Chef Blends Shredded Nacho & Taco Cheese, 8 oz., UPC 4610040041, with “Sell By” dates of “H14JUN17” and “H12JUL17.”

The gluten-free \'Flakes & Fibre\' product from Italy was distributed to Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Lithuania.

The 300g cereal was manufacturered by Molino Nicoli for Semper and has date 17-3-2018.

Semper found that some packages contain chocolate pieces which should not be part of the product and were accidentally mixed in during preparation of the flakes.

Hungary: Hungarian authorities have warned about frozen swordfish loins from Vietnam in excess of the permitted limit (1mg/kg) of mercury.

Lab tests found the heavy metal in 1.6 mg/kg - ppm.

The shipment from Vietnam was to a Belgian enterprise and was then transported to Hungary through a Dutch intermediary. Italy also received product, according to RASFF.

It has item number KHFILSA, item ID 150709-4 and shelf life of 11.8.2019.
