ConAgra, Mars and JBS staff join NACMCF panel

Members to the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF) have been revealed for the 2015-2017 term.

NACMCF provides scientific advice on public health issues related to safety of the US food supply.

It meets twice annually, while subcommittees meet as necessary.

The committee assists in the development of microbiological criteria and reviews and evaluates epidemiological and risk assessment data and methodologies for assessing microbiological hazards.

Tom Vilsack, US agriculture secretary, appointed members following consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Members include scientists from academia, industry, other organizations, and Federal and State government.

Newly appointed members are: Dr Gary Acuff, Texas A&M University; Vanessa Coffman, Consumer Representative; Dr Peter Feng, US Department of Health and Human Services, FDA; Dr Scott Hanna, US Department of Defense; Dr Carolyn Hovde, University of Idaho; Dr Bala Kottapalli, ConAgra Foods; Dr Margie Lee, University of Georgia; Dr Tiffiani Onifade, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; Dr Laurie Post, Mars Global Chocolate; and Dr John Ruby, JBS USA. 

Returning members include: Dr David Gombas, United Fresh Produce Association; Dr Scott Hood, General Mills; Dr Jeffery Kornacki, Kornacki Microbiology Solutions; Dr Evelyn Mbandi, USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service; Dr Wilfredo Ocasio, The National Food Laboratory; Dr Ruth Petran, Ecolab; Dr Jennifer Quinlan, Drexel University, Department of Nutrition Sciences; Dr Robert Seward, Seward Global Consulting; and Dr Robert Tauxe, CDC, Division of Foodborne, Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases.
