Myprotein is recalling more than 10 products from multiple countries due to Salmonella.

The pathogen was found in various coconut water powders from the US and distributed to Croatia, Spain and UK.

Myprotein said it had identified an ingredient sourced by a third party supplier that was contaminated. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The firm refused to tell us what Salmonella strain was found, what ingredient was contaminated or if it would continue working with the implicated supplier.

Certain dates and batch codes of Myprotein Coconut Water Powder 250g; Active Woman Pre-Workout - Summer Fruits and Peach Tea 500g; Active Woman Pre-Workout - Peach Tea; Summer Fruits and Apple & Pear 1kg are involved.

Samples of Active Woman BCAA, Summer Fruits and Peach Tea 20g; Active Woman Pre-Workout Peach Tea, Summer Fruits and Apple & Pear 20g and ElectroFuel, Lemon & Lime and Summer Fruit 1kg are also involved.

Myprotein is an online sports nutrition brand with a range of over 2,500 products. The Hut Group acquired Myprotein.com in 2011.

Tens of thousands of checks each year

The firm said it performs tens of thousands of checks each year.

“Myprotein performs rolling audits and assessments of its supply chain throughout the year to ensure its highest standards are maintained and…all ingredients sourced must be accompanied by Certificates of Analysis provided by independent laboratories confirming the highest quality of raw materials.

“Our internal checks have identified an ingredient sourced by a third party supplier which may not meet our highest standards, despite the ingredients having received a Certificates of Analysis from an independent US laboratory.

“A tiny number of products across the Myprotein range (less than 0.1%) are potentially affected by Salmonella detected in our tests. Salmonella was not detected in other independent tests and we have received no customer complaints.

“Rest assured, this is an isolated incident caused by a single third party supplier. There is no current evidence to suggest other products are affected.”

In 2012, Myprotein recalled Free Range Liquid Egg Whites 1kg because Salmonella was detected in a batch.

The product was sold via the Myprotein and Nutri Centre websites and Nutri Centre stores.
