Neogen launches test to detect lower levels of aflatoxin
Veratox HS (High Sensitivity) for Total Aflatoxin can deliver results ranging from 1 to 10 parts per billion (ppb) of aflatoxin.
The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test detects the four principle types of aflatoxin, B1, B2, G1 and G2 after 30 minutes.
The firm launched Veratox for Total Aflatoxin that delivered results from 5 to 300 ppb after 10 minutes in late 2015.
Neogen said the higher sensitivity test would help grain producers and processors meet requirements for lower levels of aflatoxin in certain global markets.
Both tests use a water-based solution for extraction.
Users can use the same aqueous extraction to test samples for 1 to 300 ppb of aflatoxin.
Aflatoxin is a by-product of mould growth in a wide range of commodities, including corn.
Mary Gadola, of Neogen, said the test delivers quantitative results and eliminates the need to handle and use hazardous materials.
“The popular Veratox microwell format also allows the testing of 19 samples at a time, which is an advantage to high-volume testers who want the benefits of using a water-based extraction method in a high-throughput platform,” she added.
Neogen also offers a water-based aflatoxin test in a test strip format.
The Reveal Q+ MAX test strips are read in a lateral flow test reader to deliver results ranging from 2 to 300 ppb of aflatoxin after six minutes.
The full line of mycotoxin test kits detect aflatoxin, aflatoxin M1, deoxynivalenol (DON), fumonisin, ochratoxin, T-2/HT-2 and zearalenone.
